PRINTING LEGAL SIZE PDF DOCUMENTS

 

Legal size PDF files can be printed either on Letter size paper or on Legal size paper by selecting the correct print options in Adobe.  Both options are described below.

 

CHANGING PAPER SIZE FROM LEGAL TO LETTER

 

This document details how to print a legal paper (8.5 x 14) sized pdf file on letter size (8.5 x 11) paper by having the file automatically resized to fit on the smaller paper. 

 

Three versions of Adobe are detailed on this document

            Adobe Acrobat 7.0

            Adobe Acrobat 6.0

            Adobe Reader 5.05

 

This varies a little bit between the different versions of Adobe Reader/Acrobat.

 

Below is the screen as it appears in Adobe Acrobat 7.0

 

But in general, you need to select “File” and then “Print” and then look for an option similar to “Choose Paper Source by PDF page size”, as shown in Figure 1, and then UN-check this box.  Then change printer paper type to be 8.5 x 11 using the Printer “Properties” button.

Below is the screen as it appears in Adobe Acrobat 6.0

 

But in general, you need to select “File” and then “Print” and then look for an option similar to “Choose Paper Source by PDF page size”, as shown in Figure 1, and UN-check this box.  Then change printer paper type to be 8.5 x 11 using the Printer “Properties” button.

 

 

 

Below is for Adobe Reader 5.05

 

Select “File” and then “Page Setup”

 

Select the correct paper size to be “Letter” as in the screen below.

 

 

 

Now click “OK”

 

Select “File” and then “Print”

 

Then make sure you have checked the boxes for “Shrink oversized pages to paper size” as in the screen below.

 


KEEPING PAPER SIZE SET TO LEGAL FOR LEGAL SIZE PDFs
